Historic Patrick Hughes House

Mary, Star of the Sea

Patrick and Jane Hughes were devout Catholics. According to church records, they were Godparents to several area children born during their early years on the ranch. Patrick donated an acre of land to the church, and the built Mary, Star of the Sea. Much of the actual usage of the structure is unknown, gone with those who built and used it. The last two events known to have been held at the small church were Jane's funeral and a rosary in memory of Edward at his death.

All that remains are the headstones. These headstones reflect some of the capes land owners: Patrick Hughes, William O'Sullivan, Michael Duffy and Denis McCarthy. Frank and Catherine McMullen where the parents of Francis Told and Laura McMullen. Francis Tole was the husband of Mary Hughes, and Laura was the wife of James Hughes, daughter and son of Patrick and Jane.
